A three–year–old boy died on Thursday evening after drowning in an open borehole as he was playing at Bodi market in Nyakach sub-county.
Confirming the incident, Upper Nyakach Assistant County Commissioner Dawin Orina said the minor was playing with other kids when he accidentally fell into the borehole.
Further, he said the boy was in the company of his mum who is a trader at the market.
Orina says locals noticed his body floating and it was later retrieved and taken to Nyabondo mission hospital mortuary.
He cautioned locals from leaving such water bodies unsealed especially during the ongoing heavy rains.
