Police in Bungoma on Sunday nabbed a lorry carrying 120 bags of top-dressing fertilizer suspected to be fake on its way to distribute it to farmers in different sub-counties.
Confirming the incident, Bungoma OCPD Wilson Muraya said they received reports of a fertilizer consignment being repackaged at one of the local fuel stations.
Further, Muraya said the 120 bags had County Government of Bungoma branding.
“We have impounded it so that officials from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) can examine it to determine its authenticity and fitness for use.”
Bungoma Senator David Wakoli urged the affected farmers to present documents concerning the fertilizer they procured for investigation.
