Local elder Susan Naliaka said the bad road in the area might have caused the accident.
“I arrived to find the vehicle completely submerged. So, we called the police to the scene immediately we received word about the accident,” said Naliaka.
The village elder identified the dead as Everline Nasimiyu, who was on her way to Kitali market to buy vegetables for her booth.
Residents now want guardrails installed along the bridge to keep automobiles and pedestrians from plunging into the river.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Kitale Level 4 Hospital, awaiting burial plans.
