Former Riruta Ward MCA Samuel Ndungu Njoroge, convicted of murdering his ex-wife, has been sentenced to 30 years in jail.
Njoroge and his co-accused, Joyce Njambi Mungai and Wilson Mwangi Munyua, were sentenced for the savage murder of Lucy Njambi Nyagiko in Kiambu High Court by Judge Joel Ngugi.
According to a statement from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), the judge's judgment emphasized the seriousness of the act, calling it "sadistic."
“Justice Ngugi stated that the accused persons brutally murdered the deceased Lucy Njambi Nyagiko who was not yet 25 years old,” ODPP stated.
“While delivering the sentence, the judge further stated that the act of the accused persons was an extreme act of domestic violence and femicide carried out in the most brutish and sadistic ways.”
Njambi died on January 26, 2018, at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), where she was being treated after reportedly being raped and splashed with acid by people who kidnapped her from her home in Thindigua on Kiambu Road on January 24.
She was buried in her parents' house in Karembu village, Gatundu South constituency.
During the MCA's conviction earlier this month, the court referenced his history of violence and assault charges, concluding that marital unhappiness motivated him to conduct the offense.
Justice Ngugi stated that the second and third accused's presence at the crime scene reinforced the evidence.
Joyce is reported to have purchased the sulphuric acid used in the attack, and Munyua's presence at the time of the crime was established through mobile phone data records.
