The former Director-General of the National Museums of Kenya, Mzalendo Kibunja, has been arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers on allegations of embezzling Ksh.490 million.
Kibunja and three other National Museums of Kenya staff members were detained, including Oliver Okinyi, an ICT officer, and Oscar Mwaura.
Mwaura is believed to have led the recruitment of phantom workers who were paid cash that was transferred to private accounts.
The fraud is claimed to have continued for five years.
The four were arrested at the EACC Integrity Centre police station while awaiting their arraignment on Tuesday.
The commission stated that it plans to begin a recovery process for the embezzled funds.
