Constable Sydney Sarro, a police officer assigned to cover the funeral of Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla, died in an accident near the site on Sunday.

According to police, the constable was on Ngiya-Nyangoma road at the Nyangoma shopping center when the accident occurred.

He jumped from a police vehicle while he and his colleagues were covering the late General Ogola's burial.

He suffered head injuries as a result of the accident and was taken to the Siaya County referral hospital, where he died while being treated.

The body was moved to the same morgue for autopsy.


Gen. Ogolla was buried at his home during a ceremony attended by, among others, President William Ruto.

On Sunday night, a soldier from the Kenya Air Force died in a road accident near Nyamonye on the Bondo-Usenge road.

According to police, Corporal Paytone Mitch Opiyo died along with motorcyclist Richard Omondi in a head-on collision involving two motorcycles.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said the soldier was riding a motorcycle while carrying his brother Felix Opiyo and was heading towards Bondo from Usenge.


When he arrived at the accident scene, he collided head-on with an oncoming motorcycle.

The soldier, who is said to have been off duty, and the other rider both died on the scene.
