Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) said that commuter train services will be suspended until further notice due to continued heavy rains.

According to a public warning issued by KRC, the deluge impacted railway lines.

“We wish to notify members of the public that commuter train services have been temporarily suspended due to the ongoing heavy rains that have affected the rail lines. We are compelled to take these precautionary measures because the safety of our customers is always of paramount importance to us,” the state corporation said.

“We will advise you once normal services resume.”

According to the Meteorological Department, most of Kenya is experiencing severe downpours due to the lengthy rainy season, which is projected to continue until June.


In Nairobi, torrential rain toppled two trees in the city's central business area on Tuesday night, slowing traffic on Wednesday morning.

The overnight rains also wreaked devastation in Mathare, Thika, Parklands, Imaara Daima, and Lang'ata Road, submerging houses in floodwaters.

Kitengela Road, the city's primary road to Nairobi, was closed when the River Athi overflowed its banks.
