Over 600 families in kirinyaga have been forced to seek shelter at higher grounds after heavy rains and floods caused River Thiba to break its banks.
According to Martin Kagunda, the Kenya Red Cross Coordinator in Kirinyaga County, the most affected households live in Mwea Constituency, along the River Thiba.
"We have helped affected families from Kithogondo village in Thiba Ward, Mwea and the affected families from Thiguku in Ndia Constituency where they benefited each from one kitchen set, two blankets, two mosquito nets, two bars of soap, one sleeping mat and one tarpaulin (temporary tent)," Kagunda said.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, numerous additional families in Kirinyaga have been displaced after flood waters wrecked their homes.
"We are being forced to walk over five kilometres to Ngurubani market where we have been walking for five minutes," said Sicily Njagi.
Meanwhile, Kirinyaga County Commissioner Hussein Allow has emphasized the seriousness of the issue, advising affected citizens to migrate to safer regions and avoid going into dangerous areas.
Two people have been confirmed killed by the floods in Kirinyaga.
