Justice Grace Nzioka has been selected for an interview for the position of Court of Appeal judge. Justice Nzioka previously presided over the murder case of businesswoman Monicah Kimani, where she found Jowie Irungu guilty and sentenced him to death. Chief Justice Martha Koome announced that judges who qualify for the position would receive a monthly salary ranging from KSh 775,845 to KSh 1,187,152.

Among the 41 candidates shortlisted by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for the position of Court of Appeal judge is Justice Grace Nzioka. Notably, Justice Nzioka gained recognition for her role in sentencing Jowie Irungu to death in the murder case of Monica Kimani. She submitted her application on Friday, February 2, following the announcement by the Court of Appeal of 11 open positions.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) announced in a statement that they have narrowed down the number of candidates for the post from 82 to 41. Among the shortlisted candidates are notable national figures, including Justice Nzioka.

Other prominent individuals on the list include former IEBC chair Issack Hassan, lawyer Katwa Kigen, and Justices Chacha Mwita and Anthony Mrima. The public is urged to provide any information they may have about the shortlisted candidates by May 13, 2024.

Wafula Chebukati, a former IEBC employee, is among the forty-one individuals who were not selected for the Court of Appeal job interview.

Not included in the shortlist are notable figures such as Justice Nixon Sifuna, Priscilla Nyokabi, the chair of the Center for Multiparty Democracy (CMD), and former deputy chair of the IEBC, Lilian Mahiri Zaja.

The Court of Appeal judge positions became available when the JSC announced openings for 11 Court of Appeal judges on February 2. These judges will serve until they reach the legal retirement age of 70 years, or 65 years for early retirees.
