A 16-year-old male student was swept away by a surging flood while swimming in the flooded Sise River in Bomet County on Sunday.
He drowned while swimming along with two others, only to be swept away by powerful currents and submerged.
His companions raised an alarm, prompting the public to join the search, but they were unable to find the body.
The student persuaded his friends to join him on the outing, and after they agreed, they went swimming.
According to disaster management officers led by Stanely Mutai, both the county disaster team and volunteers are now involved in the search efforts.
