Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reaffirmed his backing for women in the nation, emphasizing that the Kenya Kwanza government owes its power to their unwavering support.
He asserted that the administration under President William Ruto's leadership will consistently champion women's initiatives nationwide.
Addressing attendees at the Lang’ata Women’s Empowerment Programme fundraising event over the weekend, the Deputy President disclosed that he had stayed up nearly all night in anticipation of the occasion.

The fundraising event for women took place at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi County and was coordinated by Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, commonly referred to as Jalang’o.
Mr. Gachagua clarified that the event was initially scheduled to be attended by President Ruto. However, he was requested to stand in for the President as Mr. Ruto was on an official trip to Zimbabwe.
“When Jalang’o told the President that it was a women’s issue, the President sent me to represent him. When I heard it was a women’s issue, I almost slept in my shoes waiting for sunrise,” the DP said to loud laughter.
Gachagua was joined by a contingent of legislators aligned with both the Kenya Kwanza government and the opposition Azimio la Umoja.
He commended the dedication and contributions of women throughout the nation, highlighting that the Kenya Kwanza administration owes much of its power to the support of women voters.
Dr. Ruto and Mr. Gachagua secured the positions of President and Deputy President, respectively, in the 2022 general elections.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga, who heads the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, emerged as their primary rival.
During his address at the Lang’ata Women’s Empowerment Programme fundraiser, Gachagua emphasized that elected officials owe their political positions to the steadfast support of women.
“In my leadership, I have put women first. All elected leaders who have complete information, not just a summary, know that if you align yourself with women, everything goes well,” he explained.
He went on to say, “Women do not steal, they are not liars, and if they love you, they do it passionately. If they hate you, they just go away. They put you in their hearts and it is a challenge to get out of there.
The Deputy President is wedded to Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, whom he acknowledges as a significant factor in his achievements.
Mr. Gachagua has openly shared on several occasions the profound influence his wife has had on his life, recounting instances where she intervened, such as rescuing him from a drinking spree.
“My house belongs to a pastor and alcohol is an abomination,” insists DP Gachagua.
He has led the charge in combating the production and distribution of illegal alcohol and the scourge of drug abuse.
