Following intense rains, numerous homes in Kamuchiri Village Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County were completely destroyed by flash floods, resulting in the confirmed deaths of 42 people.

On Monday morning, twenty bodies had already been recovered.

According to Jane Kihara, a member of parliament for Naivasha, the floodwaters were caused by a nearby river that overflowed its banks early on Monday morning.

She further urged residents residing in flood-risk areas to relocate to higher ground.

"It's something we have not seen. The road is gone, the one going to Narok has caved in also," she said.

Naivasha police commander Stephen Kirui confirmed the incident early on Monday morning and said that multiple survivors were taken to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

More than a hundred individuals were reportedly saved and attended to at Mai Mahiu Health Center, with thirty-two of those cases being referred to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.

At the scene are teams from the Kenya Police, the County Disaster team, the Kenya Red Cross, and local residents.
