General Charles Kahariri Muriu has been sworn in as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) presided over by President William Rutoat State House, Nairobi.
During the swearing in ceremony, Kahariri pledged to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution; the people and Republic of Kenya while discharging his duties.
"I will diligently serve the people and the republic without fear, favour, bias, affection, ill-will, prejudice, or any political, religious or other influence.”
He takes over from the late Francis Ogolla who died in a plane crash in Elgeyo Marakwet last month alongside nine others.
John Mugaravai Ornenda, who was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, was also sworn in.

Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed, the new Kenya Air Force Commander, also took the oath of office. Major General Paul Owuor Otieno was also sworn in as the commander of the Kenya Navy.
President Ruto called on the KDF's top brass to discharge their mandate diligently, describing it as a solemn responsibility.
"You have taken charge of the leadership of the KDF. The appointment that has been bestowed on you is to serve the republic and the people of Kenya. You must remember that exercising authority comes with responsibility and accountability," the president said.
Further, he called on the KDF leadership to uphold the standards in line with their oath of office; and assist other agencies in their roles.
"None of you has been appointed to serve your communities or religions. Your assignment is to the people of Kenya.”
President William Ruto promoted Kahariri to the rank of General and appointed him the new Chief of the Defence Forces on Thursday.
