Due to the continuous, intense rains that have caused flooding throughout the nation, at least 238 people have died to date.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, who stated that in addition to the 47,000 households that have already been affected by the flooding nationwide, 75 additional people had been reported missing.
Mwaura pointed out that with over 164,000 people reportedly affected, Nairobi tops the list of counties with the highest casualties.
Landslides have also occurred in Makueni, Nyandarua, Nakuru, and Bomet counties, which have also been severely affected by the rains.
According to Mwaura, the continuous rains have severely damaged infrastructure, caused extensive property damage, and killed a lot of livestock, leaving many people in the nation with untold losses.

"Villages have been marooned in Baringo and Nakuru and the railway line was also disrupted by landslide...7,000 acres were destroyed and 4,000 cattle swept," Mwaura said.
"Masinga Dam is spilling...River Nyando has overflowed, disrupting transport and the road in Murang'a is blocked by a landslide."
According to Mwaura, nearly 600,000 students have no schools to return to because the government's decision to delay school reopening has left them without a place to go. Many schools are either housing internally displaced people or have been completely destroyed, with roofs blown off and toilets sunk.
The government is constructing homes to house the internally displaced people (IDPs) as part of its commitment to protecting the lives of those impacted, the spokesperson for the administration said.
"20,000 units will be put up in Nairobi where they will pay Ksh.3,000 rent as mortgage and the programme will also come to Kisumu," he said.
"Nobody will go back to riparian areas (within) 30-metre radius; Urban planners take note."
Mwaura went on to say that multi-agency teams have been sent in to assist with food distribution and rescue operations.
Four hundred forty-one non-food items have been shipped. While NGAO leads the evacuation to safer areas, KDF and NYSs are helping with the evacuation. He stated that temporary shelters are provided to impacted families and that evacuations are conducted humanely during the day.
