A 22-year-old man is unharmed after escaping a house fire in a suspected arson attack in Abom village, Bondo, Siaya County.

Isaac Ochieng' was asleep at 2 a.m. when he awoke to discover his two-room grass-thatched house on fire.

According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, Ochieng' reported the incident to Lwala Kotiende police station, claiming that his house had been set ablaze by unknown individuals.

He said that he had escaped unharmed and then raised the alarm before his family arrived and extinguished the fire.

Ochieng told the authorities that the fire destroyed his bed, several pieces of apparel, and other household belongings.

Mr Kimaiyo stated that even though the cause of the fire has not yet been established, Ochieng highly suspects that his house may have been burnt by one of the youths with whom he had picked a quarrel over a debt that he owes.

Mr Kimaiyo claimed that, while the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, Ochieng strongly thinks that his house was burned by one of the youngsters with whom he disagreed about a loan he owed.

The county police chief stated that officers from the police station visited and documented the scene and that investigations had commenced to determine the true origin of the incident.
