Rescue workers have recovered the body of a man who was buried alive after a quarry collapsed at Ngucue quarry in Murinduko ward, Kirinyaga County.

The body of Josphat Muchiri, aged 54, was retrieved last night by an excavator belonging to a Ngurubani trader after residents waited in vain for the county government of Kirinyaga to respond.

"At last, the body of Muchiri has been retrieved by Mr. Muchangi after residents, using hoes and spades, failed to find his body," Paul Muna said.

The body of Josphat Muchiri, 54, was discovered last night by an excavator belonging to a Ngurubani trader after neighbors waited in vain for the county government of Kirinyaga to respond.

Residents of Ngucue searched for the deceased's corpse for more than 24 hours after the quarry fell in on Tuesday night.

The deceased was with two other persons who fled unharmed following the event.

The deceased's body was brought to Kerugoya mortuary while funeral arrangements were being made in Kanjinji village.
