A Homa Bay court has charged a man for allegedly stealing a gadget that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party used to conduct grassroots elections in the devolved unit last month.

Robert Ongaro was accused of using violence to attack a UDA election official identified as Godwin Okello at Ongeti Primary School in Omoya village, Kagan Ward, Rangwe sub-county.

Appearing before Homa Bay Principal Magistrate Joy Wesonga, Ongaro faced two counts, including robbery with violence and creating disturbance.

In the first count, the court was told that on April 26, 2024, Ongaro, together with others, robbed Okello using violence contrary to section 296(2) of the Penal Code.

In the second count, the suspect was accused of creating a disturbance in a manner likely to breach the peace, contrary to section 95 (1)(b) of the Penal Code.

However, he denied the charges leveled against him.

The case will be mentioned on June 11, while the hearing is set for June 19, 2024.
