The Central Organisation of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli was on Monday re-elected as the titular member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for the fifth time in three years.

His re-election was announced following the elections held during the 112th Session of the International Labour Conference.

Atwoli garnered 97 out of 130 votes, becoming the first representative to hold the position for the fifth time.

“This historic re-election not only marks my continued commitment to the international labor movement but also establishes me as the longest-serving member of the ILO Governing Body, and I don’t take it for granted.”

Beyond his contributions at COTU, he has also played a pivotal role in different organizations and boards, including the Social Health Authority (SHA).

“All these appointments reflect the trust that workers in Kenya, and beyond, have in me, in regards to contributing to the governance and strategic direction of key institutions in Kenya and beyond ,” he said.

Further, he expressed confidence that he will continue to impact change and advance the cause of workers’ rights globally.

“I will ensure that the rights and welfare of workers, globally, are upheld and respected,” Atwoli noted.
