Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Douglas Kanja has opened a new police station at Ragumo in Kisumu East Constituency to enhance security.
The police station constructed by the Kisumu East National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) boasts modern facilities.
The facility will address rising insecurity, and the number of officers serving the area will be increased.
Speaking during the launch, Kanja commended the area Member of Parliament (MP) Shakeel Shabil for the initiative, adding that it will open up the area for development.
“Having this police station here will enhance security and further encourage economic activities.”

He assured that more police officers shall be deployed to the station, which he noted serves a large area, as arrangements to set up additional police stations continue.
Further, he appreciated the officers for doing a commendable job despite serving a large area without a motor vehicle.
Kanja asked the officers to work with community members to tame runaway crime in the area.
Kisumu East Members of Parliament (MP) Shakeel Shabbir said the community's need for security informed the construction of the police station.
Additionally, he said that the construction of the Chiga Police Station was halfway done. Once completed, the station will have a digital laboratory and offices for the Assistant County Commissioner (ACC).
He said four other police stations were in the pipeline and his office was in talks with the Inspector General of Police to secure the necessary approvals.
“Everything you see here has been done in consultation with the National Police Service. We always ensure that we follow the law and the requirements of the service,” he said.
He said that the NG-CDF has donated 10 motorcycles to support the officers this financial year and will supply an additional 50 in the next financial year.
