The Ministry of Education has stated that the application site for scholarships and loans for students enrolling in universities and TVET schools will open on Tuesday, June 18.

In a statement, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu stated that applications under the Student-Centred Funding Model for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort were scheduled to open on Saturday, June 15. Still, the ministry decided to move it forward after changes were made to the national calendar.

"However, on June 14th, 2024, the Government declared Monday, June 17th, 2024 a public holiday to mark Eid Al-Adha. Consequently, in solidarity with our Muslim fraternity, the Ministry of Education decided to move the portal opening date from Saturday, June 15th, 2024 to Tuesday, June 18th, 2024 to allow Kenyans ample time to prepare and celebrate Eid Al-Adha," said Machogu.

Parents and kids have been assured that there will be enough time for all eligible pupils to apply for support.

On July 31, 2023, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu opened the Higher Education Financing (HEF) Portal, which allows students to apply for scholarships, loans, and bursaries individually shortly after obtaining acceptance letters.

The strategy was developed based on carefully selected criteria to channel higher education expenditures directly to individual students.

To be eligible to apply, a person must have been assigned by the Kenya Universities and Institutions Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to study an undergraduate, diploma, craft certificate, or artisan degree at one of Kenya's approved public universities or TVET institutions.

Here's a step-by-step tutorial on how to apply.

Once confirmed to have met the requirements, one will need to visit https://www.hef.co.ke/

A valid email address, a valid phone number registered to the applicant's name, KCPE and KCSE index numbers and year of examination, College/University admission letter, and a copy of the sponsorship letter for those sponsored in secondary school.
