PNU party leader and former CS Peter Munya went has criticise the government for planning to raise taxes in the proposed 2024 Finance Bill, claiming it will harm Kenyans. He termed the new Finance bill as a terrible law that will place additional burdens on Kenyans.
Mr. Munya advised political leaders, particularly Members of Parliament, to properly represent Kenyans in the National Assembly when the measure is debated and voted on. He stated that the state should not utilise MPs to approve the law because they risk losing their seats in the future 2027 general elections.
This comes as the National Assembly continues to seek public input on the draft 2024 Finance Bill. Kenyans have expressed their opinions on the law, but experts worry that higher taxes will harm Kenyans and the manufacturing industry.
Former Cabinet Secretary has also defended deputy President Hon Rigathi Gachagua over recent attacks from National Assembly Leader of Majority Hon Kimani Ichungwah.
While speaking to the media on Monday, Munya stated that it is terrible that certain high government officials refer to other locals as villagers although the leaders themselves are from the villages.
"We're witnessing a lot of carelessness, irresponsibility, and a don't-care mentality. You see senior government figures calling people villagers; we don't mind being called villagers, but please leave villagers alone so that they can deal with their village difficulties. Kijana amezaliwa Kijijini anaita wengine villagers," Peter Munya explained.
