The Indian nationals, Sami and Khan, are believed to have come to Kenya in April 2022 to join then-Deputy President William Ruto's ICT campaign team ahead of the August General Election.

A witness earlier testified in court that government vehicles were utilized to trace, catch, and dispose of the remains of the three murdered people in Aberdares National Park, Nyeri County.

During a hearing before Kahawa Law Courts in Kiambu County in March of this year, the witness stated that a vehicle attached to the SSU, registration GKB 038U, was captured in the car tracking logs entering the park's Tree Tops gate at 6:34 p.m. on July 22, 2022, which was after the official 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. visiting hours.

The court heard that the vehicle was also not recorded in the gate vehicle register book, as per the records retrieved from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) gate registers.

The court heard that the car was also not entered in the gate vehicle registration book, according to information obtained from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) gate registers.

According to the witness, 20 mobile phones belonging to the accused were taken and brought to DCI for forensic examination before being handed over to Kenya's Communications Authority for further investigation.

They were subsequently flown to India for further investigation into the events surrounding the three victims' purported abduction.

One of the phones included contact between Corporal John Mwangi Kamau and Corporal Joseph Mwenda Mbaya on October 16, in which the latter requested that the former return to the site to clean it.
