Kenyans on X platform have collectively fundraised over Kes 2 million in less than 8 hours to cover the burial expenses Rex Kanyike and Evans Kiratu who died during Thursday’s anti-Finance Bill protests.

The two succumbed to injuries sustained during the demonstrations with Rex shot and killed by police as the protests entered the night stretch while Evans was hit by a teargas canister, dying a few days later.

As a result, Kenyans on X rallied together to accord the two men a decent sendoff, a day after an X 'space' enhanced online activism against the Finance Bill 2024.

Led by X personality Kimuzi, Osama Otero and Hanifa Adan, the team organized a fundraiser for both Rex and Evans, quickly setting up an M-CHANGA fundraiser early Sunday morning.

Similarly, Osama Otero unveiled another X space dedicated to the fallen protesters, asking all the listeners to all chip in as little as Kes 10 as the race to Kes 2 million heated up.

8 hours later, Kimuzi updated Kenyans on the status of the fundraiser, proudly announcing that the target had been met - it, in fact, crossed the target by hundreds of thousands of shillings.

Already, some Kenyans on X are making elaborate plans to attend Rex and Evans' burials enmasse, many urging people to show up in their thousands to not just honorably lay the duo to rest but also send a strong message to the Kenyan leadership.
