Brittany Jones, a Kenyan-American singer, has filed a lawsuit against socialite and musician Tanasha Donna, seeking over Ksh618,000 (approximately USD 4,838.87) as compensation for an alleged breach of a music collaboration agreement.

Jones claims that Tanasha and an associate named Muema failed to honor their agreement, leading to significant financial losses.

According to the lawsuit, the collaboration was formalized on November 12, 2021, after Jones made an initial payment of USD 1,020 (approximately Ksh130,355) to Muema via Mpesa on November 11, 2021.

The agreement stipulated that Tanasha would contribute a verse to their joint song, participate in the video shoot, assist in promoting the song, and transfer all rights of the song to Jones.

In return, Jones agreed to pay Tanasha Ksh200,000 and cover all costs related to the audio and video production. The payment to Tanasha was to be made in two installments: Ksh100,000 upfront and the remaining amount before the video shoot.

Despite Jones fulfilling her obligations under the agreement, she claims that Tanasha has shown no intention of fulfilling her own responsibilities for nearly three years, even after receiving a formal demand notice.

Jones' lawyer asserts that Tanasha has neither delivered the agreed-upon verse nor participated in the planned video shoot in Kenya.

In her lawsuit, Jones is also seeking reimbursement of USD 472.50 (approximately Ksh60,385) spent on airfare from Houston to Nairobi for the video shoot.

Additionally, she is seeking compensation of USD 3,096.37 (approximately Ksh396,000) for accommodation and other expenses accrued during her stay in Nairobi.

Furthermore, Jones aims to recoup USD 250 (Ksh32,000) from Muema, alleging fraud and misrepresentation. She claims that Muema received clothing worth USD 250 from her, promising to reimburse the amount upon delivery but failing to do so.

Jones is seeking a total of USD 4,838.87 (approximately Ksh618,403) from Tanasha and Muema through the court, in addition to any other appropriate compensation for the breach of contract.

The case highlights the challenges and risks associated with international music collaborations, particularly when contractual obligations are not fulfilled, resulting in financial and professional setbacks for all parties concerned.
