A section of the Parliament was set on fire on June, 25, as protesters stormed the building. Public expectations and concerns regarding the 2024 Finance Bill have escalated into massive protests across the country with Nairobi which is the capital city taking the lead.

Tensions peaked as predominantly youthful protesters gathered in Nairobi's CBD to oppose the bill's controversial tax provisions. A significant police presence was observed, with security forces proactively blocking roads leading to Parliament in anticipation of potential clashes. The situation turned tragic around midday when a group of demonstrators attempted to breach the security barriers near the parliament buildings.

Reports from the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) confirm that police officers shot five protesters on the spot. Sadly, one protestor died in the incident. The KHRC promptly criticized the use of lethal force, describing it as a serious breach of human rights. Video footage circulating showed chaotic scenes as hundreds of protesters clashed with law enforcement officers.

The footage captured tense moments as authorities responded to protesters who were throwing projectiles, leading to the tragic escalation. The current protests, highlights the public's dissatisfaction with the proposed Finance Bill 2024. The authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding today's tragic events outside Parliament.
