Fluorspar mining company Fujax East Africa is set to commence operations in six months in Keiyo South Sub County and the larger Elgeyo Marakwet County after nine years.
According to Mining Cabinet Secretary (CS) Salim Mvurya, more than 200 families who gave up their 4,329 parcels of land for the company's establishment will be compensated.
Further, he said the government would ensure that the company strictly adheres to the Mining Act of 2016, which states that 70% of royalties will be paid to the National Treasury, 20% to the County Government, and 10% to the local community.
Additionally, as part of CSR, the company will work with the community to improve schools, hospitals, and other basic services during the period it will be operating in the area.
The CS said the company would hire qualified locals for various positions and ensure that they were given tenders to supply various goods.
