A tragic accident occurred at Chabahar Konarak Airport in southern Iran, resulting in the death of a mechanic. The mechanic, Abolfazl Amiri, was performing routine maintenance on a Boeing 737-500 belonging to Varesh Airlines when the incident happened.

Amiri realized he had left a tool near one of the plane's engines and went to retrieve it. Unfortunately, the engine was running for a test, and the cover flaps were open. As he approached, he was sucked into the turbine. The engine then caught fire, causing his immediate death.

Iran's aviation authority is now investigating the incident. Although there have been several alarming incidents with their aircraft recently, this appears to be a tragic accident rather than a fault with the Boeing aircraft itself.
