Kirinyaga County Woman Representative urges President Ruto to appoint his next cabinet secretaries based on merit and accountability.
Her statement comes after President Ruto's moves to send all his cabinet secretaries home, except Prime Minister CS Musalia Mudavadi, who also serves as Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
"It is important that we see a Cabinet that is competent, accountable, and comprises individuals with a proven track record. It is also important that we avoid pinpointing specific individuals that the president should appoint because, at the end of the day, competency must be the priority," she said.
While dissolving his Cabinet, President Ruto announced that he would conduct "extensive consultations" across many sectors and party organizations to build his new team.
The Kirinyaga Woman Representative acknowledged the President's commitment to collaborate across sectors and party forms while building his new team but urged on responsibility.
"What the Kenyan people are saying is that accountability must be a priority. While consultations are ongoing, we must establish minimum standards for anyone holding a Cabinet Secretary position," she said.
She emphasized that elected Members of Parliament should be accountable to their constituents by carrying out their mandates during the vetting process.
