The inspector general of the National Police Service, Japhet Koome, has resigned effective immediately.
President Ruto has appointed Eliud Langat as the acting deputy inspector general of the Kenya Police Service.
Hussein Mohamed, State House spokesperson, announced Koome's departure in a message to newsrooms.

"His Excellency Hon. William Samoei Ruto, Ph.D., CGH, President and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, has accepted the resignation of Eng. Japheth N. Koome, MGH, as Inspector General of the National Police Service on July 12, 2024," says the announcement in part.
