The national police service has issued an apology to veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho after he was violently abducted a few hours ago while in the company of his son.

According to the police service, it was a case of mistaken identity meant to arrest Francis Gaitho, the suspect in their investigation. They reiterate that as a Service, they do not target journalists in any way, and today's incident is highly regrettable.

A video filmed by his son Andrew shows Gaitho being pushed into a private car by uniformed police officers and others dressed in civilian attire.

Andrew describes how his father drove into the police station to take cover after detecting a strange car following him through traffic.

The Nation columnist was pushed into the private vehicle while other police officers watched.
