Mbita Law Court will rule on the funeral rituals of Kennedy Onyango, a 12-year-old kid who was shot during anti-tax protests in Rongai, Kajiado County.

The court will decide whether Kennedy will be buried at the house of his mother, Jacinta Anyango, or his father, Denis Okinyi.

On July 6, a procession was on its way to Anyango's house in Rusinga to put the 12-year-old to rest when Okinyi hijacked them with a court order.

Okinyi, Jacinta's ex-lover, petitioned the Mbita Law Court to prevent the mother from burying Kennedy at her second married house.

The father informed the court that his former wife had only lived with the kid for a year since Kennedy was under his custody before.

Conversely, Anyango accused her ex-lover of blocking the burial after learning that the government covered the costs. She claims that all he wanted was to seize control of the contributions.

Kennedy's remains, which were scheduled to be buried in Rusinga, were transported to Suba Sub-County Hospital and will be held there until a court judgment on July 17, 2024.

The child was killed by a bullet during anti-tax riots in Rongai, Kajiado County, in June 2024.
