The Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK), Posta Kenya, has tripled the annual membership costs for its MPost virtual addresses at the beginning of July

Posta's digital address system, developed by Kenyan technology start-up MPost, turns mobile numbers into virtual addresses to boost postal and e-commerce operations.

According to a message sent on Thursday by Posta Kenya CEO John Tonui, virtual boxes for business organizations will now cost corporations Ksh.9,450 per year, up from Ksh.400.

Individual virtual addresses will go from Ksh. 400 to Ksh. 2,000.
MPost transforms cellphone numbers into official virtual addresses, allowing consumers to get notifications anytime mail arrives at their digitized postal office boxes.

MPost stated late last year that it would relocate its headquarters from Nairobi to Kigali, citing Rwanda's more supportive economic environment for ICT start-ups.
