The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) expects container handling at the Port of Mombasa to increase by 200,000 in 2024 to 1.8 million.
According to the KPA Managing Director William Ruto, the growth in 2024 will be the highest in the past three years.
In 2023, the port handled 1.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), an increase from the 1.45 million TEUs recorded in 2022.
When he received the MV Ever Vim at the port, the MD attributed the growth to the port’s modernization efforts and a dedicated workforce, which elevated the port’s operational efficiency.
Ruto said the arrival of MV Ever Vim highlights the growing confidence that major shipping lines have in the port.
