A tragic incident in Butere, Kakamega County, has left a family demanding justice after police allegedly shot their son in a case of mistaken identity.
Albert Atulo recounted that his 21-year-old son, Daniel, was fatally shot while his friend, Boaz Katiech, sustained injuries during the incident at Khwisero.
Daniel, the youngest in his family from Eshinyulu village in Eshikunga, Butere Constituency, was with Katiech in Khwisero, waiting for their girlfriends, who worked at a local bar. The incident occurred just before midnight when police officers confronted the two men. Daniel was killed instantly, and Katiech is currently recovering from gunshot wounds.
The police officers, reportedly from Khwisero police station, mistook the two men for gangsters who had been terrorizing the local community. James Momanyi, the area police boss, stated that a multi-agency investigation is underway to uncover the details of the shooting.
The grieving family is now seeking justice for their son, hoping the probe will bring clarity and accountability for the tragic loss of their loved one.
