President William Ruto on Monday emphasized the importance of political unity in addressing the challenges facing Kenyans. Speaking in Tana River during the final leg of his coastal region tour, Ruto urged leaders to prioritize serving the people over engaging in popularity contests.

He called on politicians from various political affiliations to set aside their differences and work together for the country's development. "We must always put the unity of the country and the interests of Kenyans first, not our own as leaders," Ruto stated.

The President made these remarks during the inauguration of the Pwani School for the Mentally Challenged Tuition Block and the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nyali Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) center in Nyali, Mombasa County.

Ruto also announced plans to expand irrigation in arid and semi-arid regions to tackle food insecurity. He revealed that KSh450 million had been allocated for irrigation projects in Bura and Tana Delta to enhance food production. "We are committed to producing enough food and eliminating the shame of hunger in our country," he said.

Earlier in the day, Ruto visited Ngao Secondary School in Garsen, where he announced a KSh400 million investment to connect 6,000 households to electricity under the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Programme.

He also acknowledged the challenges faced by Tana River residents during the rainy season, promising to relocate affected individuals to safer areas. Additionally, the President announced the construction of four markets in the county, costing KSh250 million, to improve conditions for small-scale traders, including "mama mboga" and "boda boda" operators.

President Ruto was accompanied on the tour by Governor Dhadho Godhana, several Members of Parliament, and Members of County Assembly.
