Children collecting firewood have discovered seventeen human skulls buried in metal boxes at a suspected shrine in Mpigi town in Uganda.

Local media reported that this grisly find occurred on Monday in Kabanga village, approximately 40 kilometers west of Kampala.

Police swiftly responded to reports from residents, Regional police spokesman Majid Karim confirmed the recovery of 17 skulls so far and stated that further excavations are underway to ensure no additional remains are present.

The police are examining the skulls to determine their age, sex, and the time of burial. Karim urged the public to remain calm despite the shock experienced by local residents.

Officers are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery and seeking to identify those responsible for the act. How the skulls ended up at the site remains unclear, but local reports suggest that the location had been used for worship.

The suspected owner of the site is currently on the run, allegedly linked to a separate murder case involving Daniel Bbosa, a prominent traditional Baganda leader and entrepreneur. Bbosa was killed by hired gunmen in Kampala as he returned home from work in February this year.
