Due to these nominations, the Raila Odinga-led ODM had to restructure its leadership. The party's Secretary General Edwin Sifuna announced the changes after a meeting chaired by Mr. Odinga. Sifuna confirmed receiving the resignations of John Mbadi, Opiyo Wandayi, Wycliffe Oparanya, Hassan Ali Joho, and Beatrice Askul Moe, who resigned from the party’s election committee.
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has been proposed to replace Wandayi as Minority Leader in the National Assembly. Suba North legislator Millie Odhiambo is designated to take over Junet's current position as Minority Whip.
Saboti lawmaker Caleb Amisi is set to succeed Mbadi as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), while Wilberforce Oundo will be the committee’s Vice Chair.
Despite these changes, Sifuna reassured that ODM remains part of the opposition Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition and will continue to hold the government accountable.
He emphasized that there was no agreement between ODM and Kenya Kwanza and reiterated the party's support for issues raised by Kenyan youth, particularly those highlighted during recent anti-government protests. Sifuna underscored ODM’s commitment to addressing concerns such as equity, unemployment, and corruption, which have been longstanding issues in Kenya.
