In line with President William Ruto's recent directive, the Immigration and Citizen Services Department has launched dedicated Migrant Labour counters to expedite passport applications.
This initiative aims to ensure that Kenyans seeking job opportunities abroad receive their passports within a week, and the government will also cover air travel expenses.
The Interior Ministry announced on Thursday that applicants must present necessary documents, including proof of intent from relevant institutions, to access these services. The Directorate of Immigration Services (DIS) has also eliminated the need for appointments to collect passports. Individuals who previously applied for passports are advised to collect them from the submission station.
To check the status of their applications, applicants can send their E-Citizen tracking number via SMS to 22222. Additionally, the DIS has issued a notice regarding the disposal of uncollected passports, stating that any passports not picked up within six months from July 31st will be discarded to free up storage space. Currently, there are 110,059 uncollected passports.
