Debra Mlongo Barasa, the nominee for Health Cabinet Secretary, has outlined her plans to address challenges in the health sector by conducting a situational analysis. She intends to use the findings to implement targeted interventions. Emphasizing the importance of streamlined processes and procedures, Barasa proposed the adoption of a digital platform to reduce human interaction and enhance efficiency in the sector.
"We need to conduct a situational analysis to understand the challenges and then develop interventions. I've seen the value of having established processes and procedures. We should implement a digital platform that minimizes human-to-human interactions," she stated.
Barasa suggested a phased implementation of these digital platforms, ultimately aiming for nationwide adoption. "This approach will allow us to monitor service delivery, quality, pricing, and inventory," she explained. "I believe we must embrace digital platforms as a country."
Barasa made these remarks during her vetting in Parliament. Addressing concerns about transparency and accountability, she expressed confidence in the National Technical Working Group (NTWG) to address the sector's challenges. "Having worked with the NTWGs in the World Health Organization, I believe we can collaborate with a multi-sectoral approach to ensure transparency, accountability, and open tenders," she added.
