43 medical officers and specialists formerly contracted under the defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) are set to secure permanent and pensionable positions with the Nairobi County Government.
This decision emerged from a meeting between Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Dr. Atellah announced that all 43 doctors, comprising 35 medical officers and eight specialists, will receive their permanent contracts at City Hall on Monday, August 12, 2024.

This agreement aligns with the broader objective of confirming all 115 medical officers and 18 specialists under NMS to permanent terms. Additionally, 35 new medical officers, 31 pharmacists, 20 dentists, and eight specialists will be employed.
The decision underscores Governor Sakaja's commitment to acknowledging the essential contributions of medical professionals. Sakaja, who dissolved NMS in September 2022 upon assuming office, assured that former NMS employees would have roles within the Nairobi County Government, stressing unity among all staff members.
