43 medical officers and specialists formerly contracted under the defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) are set to secure permanent and pensionable positions with the Nairobi County Government.
This decision emerged from a meeting between Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Dr. Atellah announced that all 43 doctors, comprising 35 medical officers and eight specialists, will receive their permanent contracts at City Hall on Monday, August 12, 2024.

He emphasized that former NMS and county government employees are now unified as Nairobi County staff, ensuring job security, particularly for nurses concerned about their future post-NMS.
This integration of NMS doctors was a crucial demand during a recent 56-day nationwide strike by medics, marking a positive step towards fulfilling healthcare professionals' needs in Nairobi.
