Police have arrested a 43-year-old man suspect in possession of a firearm loaded with five rounds of ammunition along Old Malindi Road in Bamburi, Kilifi County.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives acting on a tip-off from the public arrested Stephen Mutunga Kimeu.

Speaking on its X platform,  DCI revealed that the suspect was believed to be in transit to Lamu because he had two Buscar bus tickets.

"Officers responded swiftly and intercepted the suspect. Upon conducting a quick body search, they found a Ceska pistol with serial number g4151 (KE KP G4151) in his possession.”

"Further examination revealed that the firearm was ready and loaded with five rounds."

The DCI says a quick search led to officers recovering the pistol from the suspect, and an ID, and a phone belonging to the suspect were seized.

The suspect was booked at Bamburi Police Station and is awaiting arraignment.
