The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has strongly denied reports of mining activities within Tsavo East National Park.
This follows the circulation of images online showing extensive ground canals. KWS clarified that these images do not depict Tsavo East National Park; they are from the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project at Galana Ranch, adjacent to the park.

This project, led by the State Department of Irrigation, aims to bolster food security in Kenya through large-scale irrigation and sustainable farming practices. As part of this initiative, canals are being constructed to facilitate water flow into the irrigation farms.
KWS emphasized its ongoing commitment to conserving and protecting national parks and wildlife heritage. The Galana Kulalu project, bordering the park to the east, is accessible via the Malindi-Tsavo Road.
