Former Secretary General of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Cleopas Malala has accused senior party officials of plotting to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a recent press conference, Malala, ousted from his position just two weeks prior, pointed to Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wa and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire as the main conspirators behind his removal. He described his ouster as "illegal" and claimed it was part of a broader scheme to remove Gachagua from office.
Malala stated, "This coup was plotted and orchestrated by two senior party officials, Mrs. Cecily Mbarire and Mr. Kimani Ichung'wa, along with others within the party secretariat." He argued that his removal had nothing to do with incompetence or his ability to manage the UDA but was a calculated move to pave the way for Gachagua's impeachment.

The former Kakamega Senator alleged that Ichung'wa and Mbarire were threatened by his close relationship with Gachagua. He orchestrated his ouster to clear the way for their political ambitions in the Mt. Kenya region ahead of the 2027 and 2032 elections.
Malala dismissed claims that President William Ruto or opposition members were involved in the plot, stating, "The impeachment had everything to do with egocentric 2027 and 2032 politics from the Mt. Kenya region."
Malala also criticized his successor, Hassan Omar, calling his appointment rushed and unlawful. He insisted that his removal violated party laws and due process, as he could not defend himself against any charges.
"My alleged removal as the UDA Secretary General was outright unlawful, unfair, and a sheer blatant contravention of the party constitution," he emphasized.
Malala promised to release evidence-backed accusations against the duo, including alleged forgery of signatures and attempts to access the party’s bank accounts.
"My next disclosure will reveal attempts by the two coup-plotters and their accomplices to intentionally run down and kill the UDA party," he warned.
