President William Ruto has called for nationwide support for Raila Odinga’s bid to become the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony in Kakamega for Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, Ruto emphasized that Odinga’s potential win would be a victory for all Kenyans.
He praised Odinga as a seasoned Pan-Africanist qualified to lead the African continent.

Ruto urged political unity, asking Kenyans to set aside their differences and rally behind Odinga's candidacy. He highlighted the importance of solidarity, stating that Odinga’s success would be a collective triumph for Kenya.
The President also called for national reconciliation, encouraging political rivals to forgive past grievances and work together in the spirit of a broad-based government for the country's future.
During the event, Ruto also addressed other national issues, including the role of opposition party members in his government.
ODM leaders urged the five party Cabinet Secretaries to execute their duties diligently, emphasizing the need to demonstrate the party's effectiveness in governance. Kisii Governor Simba Arati highlighted that the Cabinet Secretaries must perform without fear or compromise, underscoring that their actions could shape the political landscape for 2027.
Additionally, concerns about the ongoing standoff involving Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers were raised. Budget Committee Chair Ndindi Nyoro affirmed that Parliament had approved Ksh.18 billion for the JSS teachers and urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to expedite hiring intern teachers to prevent strikes.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja also emphasized the urgency of resolving JSS issues to avoid further disruptions in the education sector.
