Former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal Kasaine was convicted by the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court of multiple charges, including unlawful acquisition of public property.
This landmark ruling marks the first time the Anti-Corruption Court has convicted a sitting or former Kenyan governor.
Kasaine was found guilty of using his company, Oryx Service Station, to supply fuel to the Samburu County Government, which created an apparent conflict of interest.

The court determined that the former governor executed these transactions through a proxy, Hesbon Wachira, who was also convicted of illegally acquiring public property.
The court dismissed the defense’s argument that no money was lost in the process, underscoring the severity of the corruption involved. The prosecution's case was built on the testimony of 11 witnesses and supported by 388 documentary exhibits, all revealing a systematic misuse of public funds.
In addition to Kasaine, ten other co-accused individuals were found guilty of manipulating public resources for personal gain. Several former county officers charged alongside the governor were also convicted of abuse of office.
Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki, who presided over the case, stated that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence to prove Kasaine's and his co-accused's guilt.
He concluded that the prosecution's case was proven beyond a reasonable doubt and ruled that all 11 accused, including Lenolkulal, were guilty of unlawfully acquiring public property.
