Samuel Mushai has been disqualified from the Paris Paralympics men’s 5000m T11 final after failing to follow the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) competition rules.
His disqualification saw Júlio César Agripino of Brazil win the race a new world record of 14 mins 48.85 at Stade de France.
The two-time world champion, who landed in Paris as the eighth fastest this season, is a multiple Paralympics medallist after winning silver in 1500m T11 in the 2008 Beijing Games before improving to the gold medal in the 2012 London Games.
Four years later, he clinched gold in the 5000 m T11 at the Rio Games but relinquished the title in Tokyo in 2021, where he failed to make the podium.
