President William Ruto has vowed to integrate the people of the Nyanza region into his government and remove them from long-standing political opposition.
During a thanksgiving ceremony in Ugunja for his newly appointed Energy Cabinet Secretary, Opiyo Wandayi, Ruto emphasized the importance of the newly established partnership between the ODM party and his Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Ruto referenced remarks by National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, who had recently identified himself as the new opposition leader.

The President was determined to bring the Nyanza region into government by 2027. He noted that the area has been marginalized in political opposition for decades and assured it would now be included in his administration. He also encouraged the residents of Nyanza to allow other regions to experience opposition roles.
Ruto highlighted the agreement with Mohamed that after three years, the opposition leadership would transition to other regions. He questioned whether the people of Nyanza still desired to remain in opposition or if they would prefer to join the government.
The President stressed that after three years, those interested in leading the opposition should be given the opportunity.
Ruto also praised ODM leader Raila Odinga for agreeing to collaborate with Kenya Kwanza through a broad-based government approach, which he believes is crucial for Kenya's unity and progress.
He acknowledged their previous political rivalry but expressed gratitude for Odinga’s willingness to set aside differences for the country's stability.
Ruto concluded by emphasizing that his victory was for all Kenyans, including the people of Nyanza, and pointed to Wandayi’s ministerial appointment as evidence of the region's inclusion in his government.
