A Nairobi court released activist Boniface Mwangi and four other suspects arrested during a demonstration on July 25, 2024.

The activist was apprehended alongside Albert Wambugu, Robert Otieno, Pablo Chacha, and Erot Franco, who were freed on bail when they first appeared in court on July 26, 2024.

On Tuesday, the court declined an application by the prosecution to be granted two weeks to finish investigations against the five.

The court ordered their cash bail be released.

The four were accused of publishing false material, unlawful assembly, and creating disturbance.

Mwangi was among those picked up by police during a march to honor victims of the ongoing anti-government protests.
