The government has revealed that the liter of milk sold by farmers increased by 5.7 percent, to Kes 49.9 last year in Kenya, compared to Kes 47.2 in 2022.

According to the State Department for Livestock Development, the increase boosted farmers' finances when farm inputs, such as dairy meal, rose significantly last year.

A price increase occurred when per capita milk consumption rose from 78.3 to 86.1 liters when milk processors were increasing farmgate prices to cushion producers from high operating costs.

Last year, for example, New KCC raised the price of a liter of milk purchased from farmers from Kes 45 to Kes 50.
